Accreditation ensures the leading medical claims
clearinghouse is adhering to health data processing
standards and has taken the necessary steps to prepare
for and implement HIPAA 5010
ATLANTA – August 16, 2011 – Navicure, a
leading Internet-based medical claims clearinghouse
for physician practices, announced today it has achieved
full re-accreditation with the Healthcare Network Accreditation
Program (HNAP) from the Electronic
Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).
EHNAC’s HNAP accreditation recognizes excellence
in health data processing and transactions and ensures
compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA
regulations. Navicure has been an EHNAC accredited clearinghouse
since 2007, but organizations must apply for re-accreditation
every two years. The company once again finished with
a score of 99 out of a possible 100. Additionally, Navicure
announced it met the requirements for EHNAC’s
5010 Readiness Assessment Program by exercising due
diligence in preparing for the implementation of HIPAA
Version 5010.
For the HNAP accreditation, EHNAC used a consultative
review process to evaluate Navicure in areas of privacy
measures, systems availability and security infrastructure.
In addition, EHNAC reviewed the organization’s
process of managing and transferring protected health
information and determined Navicure meets or exceeds
all EHNAC criteria and industry standards. Through completion
of the rigorous accreditation process, the organization
demonstrates to its clients adherence to strict standards
and participation in the comprehensive, objective evaluation
of its business.
“With recent changes in legislation and compliance
requirements, this is a crucial time for healthcare
networks to ensure that they’re adhering to the
latest standards in privacy, security and confidentiality,”
noted Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC. “In
order to earn EHNAC HNAP accreditation, healthcare networks
are required to demonstrate excellence and a commitment
to ensuring the security and privacy of health data
processing and transactions for their customers. Navicure
joins this select group of HNAP-accredited organizations.”
To successfully qualify for the 5010 Readiness Assessment
Program, Navicure proved its plans and preparations
for the conversion to the 5010 version of the HIPAA
transactions are consistent with the Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services (CMS) industry guidelines for
analysis, testing and implementation. For more than
two years, Navicure has been preparing for the transition
by running their system through series of analysis and
testing plans to ensure that they are fully ready for
the transition.
Additionally, Navicure has become a leading provider
and educational source for information about the upcoming
5010 transition. They continue to present webinars about
both the 5010 and ICD-10 transitions, and host regional
dinners for physicians and medical practice staff which
focus on the transitions. The company also developed
a free educational website, icd10hub.com,
in conjunction with the American Academy of Professional
Coders (AAPC), that provides helpful information, education
and direction on 5010 and ICD-10.
“Completing the EHNAC 5010 Readiness Assessment
Program demonstrates our commitment to preparing for
the upcoming HIPAA 5010 transition,” said Jim
Denny, founder, president and CEO of Navicure. “We
have worked hard to prepare for the transition and this
recognition solidifies that we are taking the right
steps to be ready. EHNAC has set the bar for quality
in electronic healthcare networks, and we will always
strive to exceed these exceptional standards.”
